This site is for and created by people who love museums. It is totally non-profit making, anything raised by advertising or donations is plowed 100% back into running the site. The text we include describing each museum is in general taken from the museum websites themselves, whilst we appreciate that this may be a minor copyright issue, it is our intent that people should at least visit the websites concerned and preferably visit the museums themselves. We want to encourage the use of museums and we believe that we are providing free advertising for each museum featured here. Of course if a museum requests that we do not include material from their site we will remove it, but we will then ask that they either provide a similar amount of text regarding their museum, or we will be forced to delete it. After all, we cannot visit every museum ourselves, although we do visit a good many. At present this site requires some 100+ person-hours per week to maintain it, without visits to museums. In the last few years we have visited museums as far apart as Toronto in Canada, Los Angeles in the USA, Christchurch in New Zealand, Coimbra in Portugal and five counties in England.
We are attempting to create the most comprehensive online listing of museums, and to do that we will need your help. At present we are only able to use information gleaned from museum websites, unfortunately, sometimes this is difficult to extract due to the data being hidden away deep in a site, language barriers (we can at present only cope with about 5/6 languages), or sometimes the museums themselves forget that visitors may not be from their own town or country.
You can link to the International Museum Index using text (pointed to http://www.intercomsec.co.uk) or you can use our graphic simply by saving the graphic below and copying it to your page and then adding the link.
